01 GT-S vs 04 Saab 93

On the way back from the gym my friend and I decided to have a quick little race down an empty road.

His car: stock 04 Saab 93 2.0T
Mine: 01 GT-S at the time just exhaust

We both had a passenger in the car. We started at around 20 MPH and I stopped at the end of 3rd gear (80ish) because he had me beat.

Try to ignore my friend yelling like an idiot

Yeah that was my huge surprise as well, I got quite a bit of space on him in the beginning then I hit lift and I thought it was done; guess that turbo really keeps him going at the higher speeds.

Yes I was in 2nd. I know it would've been helpful to be in 1st but my transmission isn't too happy to downshift to 1st going anything over like 10mph.

I know how to rev-match well, my transmission has around 200k on it and has surprisingly little grinds but going down to 1st is one of them.

I also started in 2nd to I guess be a little more "fair" his car is auto so it had to downshift and what not. I thought it should've been an easy win and didn't matter if I started a little slower, I was wrong obviously haha.

I've used redline mt90 and really didn't notice any difference, I'm going to try redline LWSP or maybe that cocktail of oils some people have talked about. Just trying to keep it running a bit longer, but I know a new transmission is in the future.

You also lost some momentum on the upshift, took you some time to get it over to 3rd.

Well, I think this explains the victory.

If you can prove that Saab had a turbo before 1962 then yes. Otherwise:

Quote:
The first turbocharged passenger car was the Oldsmobile Turbo Jetfire in 1962.

because Turbos are relatively new in the world of cars. Airplanes didn't use them for a while. They ran up to 28 cylinders in a 'braid' in some jets.

^^ okay you're a freak...
in quotes from Wikipedia "The Saab 99 turbo was one of the first "family cars" to be fitted with a turbo after the 1962-63 Oldsmobile Turbo Jetfire"

I saw a topgear episode where they claimed Saab had the first turbo...

They are biased toward the Old World.
