Great tut! I just got done doing this along with disabling my drl's. I hated having to only use the fogs when the headlights were on. Thanks again.

found it, it should be one of those green one under the climate control
on plug IO wire 2 -> tail lights
or plug IE wire 6 -> right side marker & parking light
or plug IC wire 4 -> left sidn marker
or plug IC wire 5 -> left parking light
should work for you, IO2 is easier, i will try it out tmr

Just tap it to the 10A TAIL fuse for parking light activation.

Just need a little bit of clarification before I begin..
Alright so doing this procedure and tapping into a "parking light circuit" will give you full control (able to turn on/off) the foglights only when the parking light switch is in the "on" position, Correct?

Correct. If you use the 10A Tail fuse as the source it will only have power when the Parking Lights are activated... either by switch or the sensor.

Ok. So the parking lights can be "on", and the foglights can be turned "off" if desired?
Full control of the stock foglight switch is pretty much what I'm asking..

Anyone have a picture of where to splice the parking light wire? I like pictures.
(and possibly allow them to be on with highbeams..)

That requires cutting & grounding the Grn/Wht jumper Pin 10 or grounding the Grn/Blk wire Pin 11 (also available as Pin 2 on the Foglight Relay) on the OEM combination HL/Dimmer switch. If you're using the stock foglight switch.

Radioshack should have the wires. They come in a 3 pack of red, black and green. Then you get the female connector separately. Autozone or any other auto store should have some wire as well that you can use.

Can the connectors be bought from RadioShack or Autozone as well?

do u do this along with tapping the foglight wire into the parking light fuse? and instead of grounding, could i remove the wire from the connector and cover the metal pin with tape?

okay, got it. could pulling out the wire and insulating it with tape work, instead of cutting and grounding the wire? also what difference would it make choosing pin 10 over pin11 and vis versa. thanks, appreciate the advice

Cutting & grounding pin 10 allows you to continue to use the stock foglight switch. Grounding pin 11 would put the fogs on ANY time the Tails are on (no off switch).

Fog Light.pdf
Tape it. If you leave it in the connector, the fogs will only turn on when the low beams are on and shut off when the highbeams go on. This mod provides power from an alternate source other than the low beam fuse and allows you to continue to use the fog switch on the stalk.

This mod works good. Thanks for the write-up. BTW, I put mine in with the
10A HTR fuse and now they come on anytime I have my key turned once and don't have to have my parklights on; they are completely independent from any other lights and I can still turn them on/off with the factory switch.

You'll probably have to run your own wire. There is one fog relay control wire (Green w/Black tracer) that goes to the connector for the combination Headlight/Dimmer/Fog switch on the steering column. You won't have the OEM relay either.

Update. Actually, you just have to ground it, i.e. you can tap it to ground vs. cutting it.

There are many ways to do this.
Another way that may be easier is to access the fog light switch harness and remove wire #17 in the schematic below and place it onto wire #16. This way the fogs are still controlled by the switch, but are 100% independent from the low beams or high beams. The down side is if you leave them on.....
You could go one step further and add a small control relay to the same wire. The relay can be used to control the ground. The coil of the relay should be tied into a switched power source, such as the cigarette lighter.
Though a bit more complicated, when you remove the key, you lose power to the switched 12V source and as such, the relays coil opens and in turn it's contacts open disconnecting the ground for the fogs. This could easily be done inside the steering column.
I modified the schematic to show what I mean. The yellow highlighted area is the additional circuit. I would recommend seeing if you can take out the wire (#17)from the connector rather than cutting it. You could then much easier restore the OEM connection if needed.
JUST REMEMBER, I'm not responsible if you make a mess of your car!
Me personally, I will be tieing in to the parking lights on the combination switch. If my FOGS are on it's usualy dawn or dusk and I think the car would just look cool with taillights and fogs.

Except it is Pin 10, not 17 you're moving. You can't place it onto 16 without tapping or soldering. 16 is the pin #, the wire is wht/blk to GND. Might as well just ground Pin 10, as I said. You could also tap in a relay, as you note. But, you don't need to break the Pin 10 to pin 17 Grn/Wht wire. Just tap it & control the relay either off an IGNition source (like CIG) or a HL source like the TAIL fuse.
If you want them to come on/off with the TAIL or HLs (and still have use of the column switch), you don't need to add a relay. You can just run the grn/wht wire from pin 10 to the TRLY or HRLY outputs from the body ECU. That is assuming that the body ECU relay driver transistors can handle the additional current of another relay.

Yes, because the ground you identify (EM) is in the engine compartment.

It was a very good write up, I thought a schematic would maybe clear things up for some (like me). I copied and pasted the ground (EM), I meant to take it out, any ground would work, even a bolt in the dash that is secure to metal or the frame.
I thought it might be easier to not have to mess with the relay wires, as for me they are harder to get to/ access. Many ways to do just about anything electrically on the Celica.
I updated the image abouve to reflect this.
Cheers!

I FINALLY did this mod the other day. and let me just say, its prob one of my favorites. the main reason is b/c its free.
Ive always seen the Acura MDX suv with just the fogs on (used for daytime running lamps) and it looks awesome. I just like the fact that I can run just the fogs and have no rear lights on at the same time.
now, maybe people will actually see me during the day, and i wont get cut off as often.
thanks!!

(i dont know anything about wiring). lol. but if i was to follow this where would i hide the red wires? do i plug them into somewhere? and the with new wire i run it to the relays under the climate control and plug it in somewhere? im so confused. I really want to have my fogs on in the day time without the low beams on.

This tutorial was a piece of cake to do! Only thing now is that I wish my HID fogs matched up with my daylight driving lights and parking lights lol...

On step 3 when you pull out the 2 red wires with the connector on it: How are you able to pull it out? It states that there's a clip, but i can't find any?

Been wanting to do this simple mod for awhile now. Are the wires the 20-gauge or the 22-gauge, I just don't want to buy the wrong ones.

I might add that I did this mod 5 years ago and just installed HIDs in my fogs yesterday.
