well for ages I have had a prothane rear bushing kit that I was going to install.

Now that I have to go to a press to complete my work, i'll take the whole knuckle and do these bushings too.

I only have one problem....the kit comes with too many bushings. And nobody has ever posted a nice picture friendly thread about prothane rear bushings for me to compare with.

There's 6 bushings for each side in the box. But on the knuckle I only find 3.

ok so here's a link to my skydrive account where I posted the pics for the prothane bushings.

Prothane Pics

If you click on that you can go through the folder of pics I uploaded and read the comments for each one.

I am confused as to where three out of the six bushings go. The prothane box says "00-01 GTS" so I know I have the correct kit...

edit: found a link on here that showed me each bushing circled in a diagram. I think that clears it all up. Looks like a couple of these are going to be a pain to remove.

Yeah they have to be pressed out.

Doesn't the other ones go on that lower control arm and the upper?

i'm trying to figure out if I can buy a ball joint puller and a bearing removal kit from harbor freight to do all my needs at the moment. Or at least 90% of them. I'm going to put a hyperflex kit on the jeep down the road so getting some tools wouldn't hurt.

has anyone ever had issues with their parking brake falling apart?

Specifically I mean the metal plate that attaches to the backing plate. The retaining springs hook onto it. I'm sure it has a name but I don't know what that is, lol. It has a tapered hole and goes over a short shaft on the backing plate.

I found mine loose when I took everything apart to replace the wheel bearings. And I put it all back together and it was nice and quiet back there driving around. Drove around a lot today and pretty sure that it popped loose because I have the same old noises I am used to that made me think the bearings were gone.

What's the harm in welding that thing to the shaft it sits on?

I didn't mess with the e-brake shoes when I did mine, so I don't know exactly what is involved on the celica, but are you talking about something like this?

yeah. The axle nut. or something like that.

What you posted I am used to. Slightly oversized bore on backing plate shaft allows axle nut to float freely yet be locked on by a slightly oversized lip.

The celica is a little different.

The axle nut is punched with a hex shaped hole and the backing plate has a hex shaped protrusion. Any deformation here though makes for a slip point where this nut can just work itself loose.

That piece is called a guide plate. It basically keeps the shoes from shifting.

Was there no clip or anything to hold that on, since the springs are attached to each end of it, instead of the center pin?

You saw both pics right?

The retaining springs aren't shown in the second picture but in the first one that is how I found everything sitting when I tore it all apart.

Oo, I saw the AMS Evo 8 drag car the other day. They have it at a high end car dealer a couple miles from my work. I think the salesman said that they were in the process of building the engine for more power. The whole body is carbon fiber..pretty cool to see up close. Wish the engine was in it though.

They mostly dealt in sti, evo, and srt4 for a longgg time. Now they have corvettes, gtr, cobras and saleen mustangs, supras...really cool to walk around and look at the things I can't have.

I like places like that but everything they sell is more than what I want to pay for a toy. An evo like that must have a ton of money sank in it. It must be nice

well my innovate motorsports mtx-l appears to be a piece of junk.

Worked two months and now the sensor is going bad.

Guess I should have bought the AEM kit instead.

yeah, those will work.

Sometimes the driver side will give problems, because it has a clip at the end of the axle that goes into the differential. Also, the splines stick in the hub. And....(this is it)...the axle nut is pretty tight, so I hope you have an impact wrench.

I'd recommend replacing the axle seals while you have them out.

Gerardo give me a call if you have any problems. I picked up some axles from Orileys think they were like 50.00 each.

Did you free air calibrate it? What exactly is it doing? Innovate's stuff if pretty good IMO.
