2ZZ Cam Dyno Numbers!

Hello Guys,
Here are the numbers we achieved today on Paul's Celica GT-S with the following modifcations:

Ragnorak Racing Cams
Eibach Springs
Injen CAI
Ragnorak Racing Throttle Body
DC Sports Header
TPR Exhaust
Apex-i PFC

Baseline was 184 whp SAE corrected and 191 Uncorrected. With the cams we made 196 whp uncorrected and 191 whp SAE corrected peak on the very best run. We made horespower and torque throughout the power band and the car is much more driveable now than before. The car needs an exhaust and header system badly which we are working on to help with the top end gains. I wanted to thank Paul for allowing us the use of his Celica for our testing and also a big thanks to the guys at Full Function in Union City (www.FFtec.com) for helping with the install and tune this weekend! Thanks guys!

We are shipping these cams out to customers starting next week. Thanks everyone and have a great weekend.

Please remember that these numbers are on a Mustang Dyno.....A Dynojet would read over 200 whp.

Thanks. Yes the car has a stock cat and resonator with an axel back exhaust. Typical Honda B series cars that make 200-220 whp have a 4-1 /4-2-1 header, no cats and a full exhaust system. We think that the addition of the header, exhaust and a port matched intake manifold with the Hondata gasket should get us over the 200 whp mark on this dyno.

Very nice numbers!

I especially like the mid range torque. Beautiful curve.

This looks very drivable.

^^ They havn't been losing top-end power, they just havn't been making as much as a PORTED stock header (still better than pure stock on the top-end and some of the midrange).

WOW!

Can't wait to see what kind of gain you can get with a better exhaust.

BTW, when people talk about the 200whp mark, is it on a mustang dyno or a dynojet?

Only downside i see to the cams, is the loss of power from 2500-3300ish. That hurts daily drivin. However, nice numbers on the top end guys!! Although the loss in power rom 2500-3300 is probably due to wide open exhaust.

Which cams were these? Race or Street?

Well judging by that dyno, I don't see why anyone would ever want the "street" cams? Since the power lossfrom 2500-3500 seems to be a dip, you could probably bring back the power with careful VVT tuning.

These cams are AWESOME! They make the car sound mean. Idle is chunky. It is very obvious when driving that power was made everywhere. I've only had a chance to run it til redline a few times, but the car feels different. Revs faster, the power band is smoother, and the midrange is deffinately useful.

I will try to get some video of idle, standstill revs, a run in the car, and a drive by, so that you guys can hear and see how truly bad ass these are. Just have to wash my car car first .

Like Brett said, this car can make 200whp on a Dyno jet. . . But, It's about the power increase when testing new parts.

Thank you again and again Brett. You are the man. You've accomplished what many have failed trying.

According to Brett, Ragnorak may offer a base map for the PFC to go along with the cams to help reduce tuning time.

Hello Guys,
We spent around 4 hours tuning Paul's car and realized pretty quickly that his exhaust system was an issue to our top end gains. We will offer a Power FC map for the mods that Paul has on his car and these cams which we can send out on disc with the cam order. We will also be doing some more testing with a true 4-1 step header, and a full 2.5 inch exhaust all the way back on his car with a cat delete pipe. I am expecting that modification to make another 5-8 whp up top in peak numbers. We reached 196.5 whp last night UNCORRECTED which I think is close to a record N/A on any dyno for this car? Thanks fella's.

I think just removing the cat and replacing the midpipe, it will net you 200 whp already. Now, add a race header on there and you will surely be past that. Good job RR! I'll be ordering a set soon.

so basically lift is at 5,800 on both runs on the base run you cut it out at 7,800 and on the cam run at 8,300 you got springs why not higher I see the cam desing make a nasty power drop a those rpms. and form the other thread I see this were the Race cams?

with an free flowing exhaust, i don't see those cams dropping off...and when he puts out that new im and even bigger TB, i see them making power to 9.5k

Wow, very impressive!

I'd never thought i see a n/a celica coming close to 200whp ever (especially with the least amount of mods he had) . And i can imagine the guys with more mods can produce even more power. I can only see good things coming for the 2zz engine.

Be sure the keep us updated with the new numbers after you guys tweak the exhaust and headers.

Thanks for the comments guys. There was no reason to rev the car past 8400rpm as the exhaust was restricting flow up top. We will try again with the new exhaust on the car and rev it to 8600 rpm and see if we can sustain the power up top with the new cams. I think that 210-220whp is going to be achievable on this 2ZZ motor without changing the bottom end. Paul has 91,000 miles on his engine so it is even more impressive that we are making these power numbers.

What gains do you expect for the street cams? It looks like there is not much mid-range power compaired to the piper cams. So when are you testing the street cams? Are you guys still going to port the head?

Current mileage - 92,300

Last:
Oil change - 91k
Airfilter/MAFS cleaning - 92k
Seafoam - 90k

FYI, compression is excellent, and stock lift bolts (the ones prone to breaking) were fine, slightly worn, but okay (replaced with re-designed cryo-treated bolts).

don't come back until we get to see 200whp...jk

200whp is a given, we already know that it's possible...this time we're looking for 210-220whp!

by the way, anybody know the record whp for a KA20(RSX-S) engine?

I don't know the record, but I know that with this:

-CAI
-Hondata gasket
-Cams (don't know witch one)
-Headers
-Full exhaust
-Hondata reflash oem ECU

These will give about 240whp. Easy, not that expensive and reliable.

The KA20 sucks!!!! Let's hope the 2ZZ can get to this NA!

Considering the Type-S already came with 200hp at the crank. They had more horsepower to start with. However, I have a feeling that we may get past 240whp with some head work such as P&P head and valve job.

The K20 will always make more power due to it's displacement and reponds to mods exceptionally well. To hit 240 whp, K-Pro will be needed.

As for the 2zz, on the stock bottom end, 200-215 whp is within reach. Anymore will need a stroker kit and higher compression along with a fully built head, long tube race header and straight through exhaust, ITB's or a custom manifold and T/B. Of course, a very well tuned PFC.

The K20 head also flows exceptionally well. Our 2zz head is closer to a Type R head.

Great numbers Brett and Paul !!!!
Did you plug in a vacuum line in the Intake Manifold (the nipple right next to the Throttle body) to see the pressure (negative boost pressure)?
The long tube Header is going to help tremendously as with a better exhaust.
But I think there is also some restriction on the breathing part.

200whp is a given, we already know that it's possible...this time we're looking for 210-220whp!

by the way, anybody know the record whp for a KA20(RSX-S) engine?

Awesome! Finally someone makes a nice set of cams for the GT-S. Its good to see the aftermarket giving the GT-S some love. The Celica weighs so little I'd imagaine it would haul some ass with 200whp.

and risingcelica, as for your question. I think the record for the highest whp N/A K20 is 320whp, stroked to 2.3 liters.

so this were the race cams huh????? ill like to be the test car for the race header im willing to pay for the header and dyno it. i just want to freaking get the race header, and exhaust done.
i have my kazuma just sitting here getting covered in dust. i just got power fc and wideband o2, and i bet i can break the 200 without cams. i dynod 170whp with only fidanza flywheel, Rps sport clutch, stock ported header, and butterfly removed from the stock intake. pm with info on how to become the test car. great job by the way again.

I remember a local GTS dynoing 195whp, of course without cams. The engine had 13:1 pistons though.
We are not even close to see the full potential of a N/A 2zz, until all the pieces are put together (by this i mean: higher comp pistons, stroker kit, racing header, cams, standalone ecu, catless exhaust or no exhaust at all, ported TB or ITBs, P&P head, valve & springs, etc etc, you get the idea). Lots of cash and installs. Until someone devotes to it, we wont see high HP numbers in the near future. Please dont keep up with the 200whp mark, I consider that as lowballing. The 2zz is capable of much more.
