Dynos for Power FC on 03 DBW GTS

So the Power FC install on Swingfixers 03 has been working fine for over a month now, and we finally got to do some dyno tuning on it - here are the results:

I don't know why it shows that dip at lift, as the other dyno didn't show it and you don't feel it driving the car, but anyways the Power FC obviously works, and has made some pretty significant gains across the entire power band. Lift is now coming on at 5700 and the car feels great according to Swingfixer

The mods on this car currently are:

AEM intake
First Boosted2.0 prototype ported header
decat
Polydyn TX7
RSR exhaust
Power FC

and thats it.

Notice how the power never really drops off up top? My guess is that with an INjen and the revised header porting it will probably do even better.

My favorite part is the extra 22 HP he picked up between 5700 and 6300 just from the tune and lower lift engage

we're working on it - we already got the Power FC running the one we have in town but the harness supplier is having a hard time sourcing all the Lotus ECU side connector.

By the way - I would like to say a HUGE thankyou to Swingfixer for his patience during this project. It took waaaay longer than we initially anticipated, and he's been awsome through the whole thing.

Not sure if I understand the question - Swingfixers tune is pretty damn good as it is - we may look at the wround town and highway stuff again, but there will be no need to re-dyno unless he makes some pretty dramatic changes to the hardware on the car...

The final dyno is with the RSR exhaust - I screwed up when I named that run file

Dunno - thats up to Swingfixer - I dunno if he wants to buy an Injen or not.

As for the header - I have to mow through the backlog I have now before I do one for him.

Excellent results. Its amazing how long it takes to get a really solid tune coming from the default maps in the PFC. I'm still working on a GT-S around here. He should be getting an Injen soon and I'm going to try and convince him to go for an upgraded midpipe with a decat. Now that I've been under the car and know all the dimensions and lengths, I think I could spec out a pretty highly performing (and quiet) midpipe that could be made for around $150-200 in parts.

None needed.....The thanks goes to Boosted for all the work and ambition it took to get this thing going. Now my car has a bunch of power, tunability, and a nice set of dreadlocks running from the engine bay into the passenger side of the cabin

It seems as though the consensus is that we would get decent power from it so I'll consider Injec CAI for the future.....next up is installing my nitrous kit since I should get more gains out of it

I'm in no hurry for the header. When we have time, Boosted will bring it up to speed with the current port jobs.

How come you guys didn't bother raising the revlimit to 8500-8600?

I did - rev limit is 8500 - for whatever reason dyno operators always get off the gas before redline on the celica - I think it scares them to rev that high.

Every time I've had the car dynoed I say, "I know the redline shows 7800 but don't back off the gas until the fuel cut."

we did that at the dyno where we tuned it - the guy kept getting out of it at like 8000 and I had to yell at him to take it to the rev limiter

the rev limit on the Pfc doesn't always work when you want it to....I've had mine rev over 100 rpms higher than the set rev limit.... So I've backed the rev limiter down to like 8450.... I never really rev past 8200-8300....

i dont see where youd be useing that amazing 22 extra HP from 5700-6300...

driving around town, you shift at 3.5k MAYBE 5 k when getting into traffic.

When racing, you stay between 6200 and 8600.

where is this magic 22hp even used?

**edit** well it looks good, and we always like to see more hp on a graph...but seriously when will you ever rev 5700 to 6300, unless you are just messing around. I see the rev limiter is set at 8500, the lower lift will help on a slow shifter getting back into lift...but other then that, it doesnt seem that amazing.

I've seen logged rpm of 8900 on a 8500 rev limit on the PFC. I'm not sure I really believe what the Datalogit is telling me.

How about when racing and taking off from a dead stop? I can think of a million times on the highway when I go through that rpm band.

i see, i guess we all drive different...i may use that power band when i launch, only if its a bad launch...but thats bound to happen so i can see how it would become useful then.

I never use it on the highway unless im just messing around...seriously its usualy only up to like 5k or redlining it. I wouldnt want to race someone from 5k anyway, even with the supercharger.

Interesting...I'd be down.

Its quite simple, actually.

Just buy two of these, $44 shipped:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MAGNA...spagenameZWDVW

Two of these, $144 shipped:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Magna...spagenameZWD1V

You'll want one of these, $35 with gasket:

http://twincamtech.stores.yahoo.net/25incolflan.html

Then you'll just want to find an exhaust shop with a MiG or TiG welder to put it together. All they would have to fabricate is the hangers from the resonator out of some stainless rod. Any shop can do that.

If you wanted to be SUPER cheap and didn't mind hacking up your stock midpipe, you could reuse the factory resonator and rear flange, then just buy the two 45 degree bends and one extra resonator to go in place of the cat.

If it is like what MyCelicaYouNV says people do not use this 22HP in traffic but one can say the same for turbo or supercharged cars, we might as well all drive Prius slow fuel efficient cars.
I see it as an option there for people to use. Imagine this traffic going slow somebody pull in front of you slow your lane down even more, you have an option to gun it to get around him and you can only do this with car with that 22 extra HP. I know this because I used my extra 100+WHP to get around plenty of people who slows down my lane.

Of course. US Dynos don't use any calculations to estimate flywheel HP - they just show whats at the tire.

How about EVERY single time you take the car to lift in first gear and a lot of the time if you decide to get on it in second or third? Also very helpful in not having to rape your clutch to land in lift. Besides - some people LIKE driving their modified sports cars hard. You may not like to, but I don't see how that is relevant here.

Besides -I think you missed the whole point of this thread. This dyno isn't impressive because I made power with a Power FC - thats been done before by me and many others. The 5700 RPM lift transition with great power isn't even hugely impressive even though its not that common. What IS impressive is that this is an 03GTS with DBW. Apexi doesn't MAKE a Power FC for this car - nobody makes a standalone for this car. Until I made this harness these cars were untuneable except with piggybacks. The point isn't that we got over 20 HP at one point on the graph, the point is that we got HP EVERYWHERE on the Graph AND lowred lift 500 RPM AND raised the rev limit and we did it on an 03 GTS which has never been done before. Now it has been done and proven viable.

The 20 hp over that part of the band is just cool - you don't see many dyno plots for cars that have a lower lift engage with a good tune - its fun to see the huge difference is all.

No need for Jesses midpipe - Swingfixer already has a custom catless midpipe.

As for redliners not yet existant race header, I think we'll upgrade to the current version of header porting first and see what comes of it

Yes, car is MUCH more fun to drive around!

Like boosted said a few posts earlier.....the point is that we (boosted) made this happen on an 03 DBW Celica. For at least a little while I can say that I'm the ONLY DBW celica to have a PFC....makes my car even more unique.

next up is Nitrous. Have had the kit for about 6 months now. Ended up waiting until the PFC project was done and in the books.

I want to do a custom exhaust from the header back as well. My only problem is I would hate having a loud exhaust. Is there a way to get the power benefits from this while still having a exhaust that sounds like say a TRD or Magnaflow. I would kind of like to keep a high flow cat in the mix, but if adding a resonator in place of the cat is the only way to achieve this sound I could sacrifice it. Would the straight pipe and 2 resonators still be too loud? Would I need a straight through muffler near the end of the exhuast as well to get this sound, or would I have to have a muffler like the TRD and stock have? This would still be a lot cheaper and have better gains than buying a TRD exhaust alone reguardless. With the comination of a race or ported header I would think you would get some really nice gains!

Checkmate!!! Congrats Boosted2.0. I'm starting to learn a lot just from reading and researching thankx to you and a couple other veteran tuners.

Since there has been a little exhaust talk on this thread I figured I'd post a video of my exhaust. This was from my dyno runs this past weekend on the dyno Jet......ported header, custom straight pipe (no cat or resonator), RSR muffler, 3rd gear pull.
