Good/Bad Dealerships in Northern California
Hmm, I'm on a roll here with new topics. Well, I just realized there wasn't a thread about dealership reviews.
So let's hear your reviews on a particular dealership; good or bad, it's good others know when service time comes along. How did they treat you? What services did you have done? How did they handle aftermarket modifications? Etc?
I'll start off by mentioning Capitol Toyota
Capitol Toyota
775 Capitol Expressway Auto Mall
San Jose, CA 95136

When I had my Celica, and came upon minor problems, I would bring it there and let them know, and they would fix it right away. Everything was under warranty and they didn't try to screw me with other isht. As for mods, I really didn't have any for them to say anything, so I'll let others englighten us. Though I don't have the Celica anymore, my dad still takes his Tacoma over there for regular maintenance, and has no problem as well. Personnel were friendly and shuttle bus is available for those who need it.

A big FU to Stevens Creek Toyota. They suck major donkey balls as far as I'm concerned. Richmond Toyota is another dealership I'd avoid. Walnut Creek is okay, but not the greatest IMHO.
Sunnyvale (I think) and Vallejo Toyota get major props from me. Good service overall.

My opinions:
Stevens Creek
Sales: Tried to rip me off (double $ for options)
Service: They don t know what they are doing
Parts: Really helpful
Capitol
Sales: Rude; Would not let me test drive a car (and I wasn t about to let them know I had $11,000.00 in my pocket)
Service: Takes way to long to find someone and over priced ($1700+ for an LSD install)
Parts: Helpful when they know what they are talking about
Fremont
Sales: I have no experience with this dept
Service: Helpful (Vener) but they have a hard time duplicating customers issues
Parts: Average; no problems but not the most knowledgeable
Gilroy
Sales: Really helpful (I bought my car from them)
Service: Absolute and total RETARDS; They can t do ANYTHING without breaking something
Parts: They try to makeup for the Service Dept (but no deal is worth the service dept touching your car again)

I would recommend Dublin Toyota, They have good rep salesman and I guess some of them are jackass but my daily contact is the Manager which is Jim Hiroshe Nice guy, that's where we got our new sequoia. Overall
Fremont Toyota: Service Department :
Parts Department : I was trying to buy some TRD brake pads, they gave me a price quote of $112 for the front and $110 for the rear brakes, I was like wtf, I showed them a TRD catalog and this fat ass was giving me excuses that the pads came from Japan that's why it's so expensive because of the shipping.

Stevens Creek
Sales: Dunno.
Service: Usually more expensive, but I've never had a problem with their service or their work.
Parts: Pretty good.
Hayward
Sales: Typical salespeople. They'll deal if you play the game.
Service: So-so. They take forever to do simple repairs.
Parts: Don't know their ass from a hole in the ground.
Fremont
Sales: Dipsh!ts couldn't lay a $2 hooker if they had $5 in their pocket. I walked in and told them flat out I'd pay cash on the spot if they could sell me a car for $500 MORE than the lowest internet price I found. I bought my car from Hayward.
Service: Also worthless dipsh!ts.
Parts: So-so. Bought brakepads once. They didn't fcuk up.

For Northbay owners I would suggest taking your car to Hansel Toyota in Petaluma ONLY if you have a problem. Do not go to Freeman in Santa Rosa.
Hansel
Sales: Not sure, didn't buy my car there
Service: Very timely and very helpful (they got me a new engine received/installed in 3 days from the time they determined it was covered by warranty)
Parts: not sure
Freeman:
Sales: Rude if you don't look like you have money (at least my experiance. Same with all their other dealerships, not specific to Toyota)
Service: Horrible. Gave me hassle about my broken starter at 3k saying my mods had caused it. Also threatened to cancel my warranty if I ever came back.
Parts: No clue

hey sup, i'm new on this forum.
toyota 101 (redwood city) - kept tryin to get me to buy the one celica they had--a GTS auto. promised to get a 6spd for me in a week. went back, and the salesperson said its not there yet, and kept on pushing me to the auto. lying bastards.
putnam toyota - told me all the salespeople were "busy" and wouldnt help me. told me to come back the next day. they didnt think i could afford a celica or somethin. arrogant assholes.
ended up buyin my celica from www.diamondmotors.com. new silver 6spd, and got the action package at NO CHARGE. paid $500 above factory invoice.
melody toyota (service) - good service, but takes forever. very helpful overall.

Good job. They've done most of my warranty work, except for when I took my car to.....
Steven's Creek Toyota
Where they thoroughly ****ed my **** up. Blew a tranny replacement, twice, and kept my car for 3 weeks. Overpriced, and idiots.

I to reccomend Dublin Toyota at least for their Service department, i've gotten the best service from them so far, i don't know about sales. But i do NOT Reccoment Concord Toyota for anything, they have the biggest assholes for salesmen, i've gone there a couple times to get a part or something and before i can even get out of my car they are on back like hawks asking if i need help or if i'm interested in another car.
Walnut Creek toyota i think has good sales, i've talked to a couple nice people there who were sales men who never once insulted me or treated me any less of a person and they weren't pushy. Their parts department guys are nice, but they have a couple bad apples in the service area, but they aren't too bad.
I DO NOT reccomend Hayward Toyota for their service department i've had nothing but problems with those guys, they can't get anything right and when they do they mess something else up in the process. I bought my car there and sales seemed fine, but their service sux.
Stevens Creek Toyota parts department can kiss my ass as well, the guy there did nothing but insult me.
But i swear Dublin gets 5 stars in my book for their service, i took my car there to have my 4th gear replaced under warranty because it began to slightly grind when i would downshift either to slow down or speed up. They never said a thing about my mods other then "wow you've done a lot to your car, looks nice". They were fast and friendly.

TRACY TOYOTA
Beware: It's owned by Ronnie Lott and is PRIVATE. San Ramon HQ cannot do a damn thing if you have a problem with the dealership.
Sales: The salesperson took the only GT-S and did donuts in the parking lot on a test drive. Had to settle for the Auto GT

Fremont Toyota service-good
Well I've had a CEL light every 3-4,000 miles with a catalytic converter efficency code (0420) and reset it a couple times myself by resetting the ECU and had it read by Autozone. I finally decided to have Toyota look at it when I took it in for 60,000 mile service. They did the service and the guy accidentally didn't tighten the radiator resevoir cap all the way. I didn't notice until I drove the car down to Milpitas and then noticed the temperature guage up a few notches. I found the resevior half empty and nice pink splotches around my engine area from the coolant overflowing. I called the dealer back and they rechecked everything and replaced my catalyst converter- as the fix for my CEL problem under CA emissions warranty.
3500 miles later I notice the engine oil light flicker on when I came to a stop. I check the oil level and find out..OMG had to add 2.5 qts of oil before I got up to full on the oil dipstick. After taking it into Toyota they figured out that my oil ring collapsed and I need to get my short block replaced. Dang this shouldn't be happening. This problem I think should have been found earlier when I brought it in just before the 60,000 miles. well it took a couple days for the Service manager before he heard from District manager about the possibility of it being a warranty repair . Then I had to produce oil change records, before they would make a decision- luckily I saved some of the receipts from my oil purchases. They finally okay the repair as goodwill. Well finally I got my car back earlier this week and runs better- all the fluids were changed again. Hope no more CEL anymore after this.

I just had my car serviced (first oil change on the celica) at San Francisco Toyota on Geary. The customer service was great and they didn't give me any problems for being lowered. The employee that did my oil change actually voluntarily cut his lunch break 20 minutes short to work on my car. So far, I give San Francisco Toyota on Geary a thumbs up.

While I was in Modesto for New Year's I had my car serviced at Modesto Toyota prior to hitting 36K. They gave my car back DIRTY (shoe tracks on the entry panel). Made them clean it...TWICE.
When I scraped my front lip, I had to go searching for touch up paint at 4 dealerships. None of them carried the Toyota touch-up, but the aftermarket chip pens. At Modesto, their excuse was that carbon blue is "a rare color." Ended up driving to Tracy Toyota. They never have sh!t in stock as usual. Drove over the hill to Dublin Toyota. Nada. You know where they had it? Toyota Town in Stockton. They have one heck of a parts dept. Knowledgeable and friendly.

Hanlees Toyota - This place is great, really friendly people. Where I got my 02 GT 5spd from. They gave us a great deal because we were Costco members and I was a student. I got my car at invoice, around 3000 less than MSRP. Only downside is that they selection isn't that great. They only had two left but fortunately one of those two was exactly what I was looking for. It was August however, time for the new 03 fleet.
Folsom Lake Toyota - This is where I go to get it serviced, since I live closest. Didn't buy a car from them because the prices were really high compared to Hanlees but the mechanics are really cool about "non-appointment" visits, not like Roseville Toyota mechanics who don't even talk to you unless you have an appointment.
Roseville Toyota - Expensive cars and bad customer service. Good selection, you can find almost every combination there but not worth the extra cost.

HEY.........I happen to work for Merced Toyota, and i have been selling toyotas for 4 years.......We have 4 Celicas on our lot right now 2 gt's and 2 Gt_s (feb. 22) Auto and manual, (6spd) spectra blue, the all new 03 silver, black and red. My dealership has been so nice to me, they warranty my celica even though it's not under warranty (for minor things) and I am young and i know what it's like to go into a dealership and no one wants to help you or think you can't buy a car....so if any of you want a car we will sell those celicas (even w/ HID lights) for an employee price to any friends....so my name is Melissa you can call me at Merced Toyota.......or email me we can get whatever you want if we dont' have it

only toyota dealership i've been to is City Toyota at top of the hill daly city. took about 8 hours to bargain with my car. as far as parts go, they will get your stuff although not very efficient when it comes to contacting you. you just gotta call in a few times to make sure if your order has already arrived. as for service, it isnt that great. i've had problems where my hatch would not hold up and all they did was liquidate it and told me it was fixed. few hours later, it starts falling again. and once i was waiting one whole hour just to get an oil change when they told me it would only be a 30 minute wait.
as far as sales, the little guys will try to rip you off once u arrive and they have little knowledge about the car. but once you start talking to the managers and reps, they will bargain with you patiently and wont let you leave dissatisfied. they do take you seriously as a customer.

Avoid Toyota of Sunnyvale
The worst dealer I have visited is Toyota of Sunnyvale. They don't let me test drive a celica even though I went it with a 2000 Camry V6. Even though it's not a luxury car, but at least it's decent.

If you're down south, steer clear of Victory Toyota in Monterey.
If you're looking for a Mazda, STAY AWAY from Cardinale in Salinas. I mean it!
BTW, first time on NC.org in a while, and nice sig, Jami!!!!!

Sunnyvale Toyota sucks big time. Just bought a used 2000 GT-S with 47k mi at a decent price ($14,900). The problem is that in 1 month I've had is serviced 4 times and this weekend I'm going on my 5th. They missed over a dozen things on the so called 128 point checklist, albeit most of them were small. They had to fix the stereo twice and finally got the tape deck working (like I really needed it but come on) but the cd player still skips. The cigarette lighter had to be replaced, rear wiper replaced, belt tensioner replaced, floor mat locking clip (they argued they couldn't fix it but after going all the way up to the general manager they finally did it in minutes), alignment was off but they neglected to straighten the steering wheel (hence this 5th visit), rattling from the heat shield (fixed) and quite a few more I can't remember. Oh yeah, the tranny makes a friction noise (read in some sites that it's the synchros) but they deemed it "normal". They also don't follow-up with messages (left 6 in one day to find out about car being serviced).
Melody Toyota service advisors give you lots of info but they wanna charge you for any service. They said "go back to the original dealer" to get the problems mentioned above fixed.
Fremont Toyota was trying to rip me off when I tried to buy the same year Celica. Was in worse physical shape: bald tires, insisted their blue mica car was black "and there's no true black", major scratches on the moonroof, dirty engine, broken vanity mirror cover in glove compartment, and they wouldn't go below $15,600. So, I gave my business to Sunnyvale (only good part of the Sunnyvale experience).
In other words, most dealers suck!

I just took my car to Florin Toyota today and they were rude. The guy looked at me stupid when I was explaining to him about the TSB on the Lift bolt problem. He was like... "what's that?... 6300 RPM?" Then he goes off and racial profiles me cuz im asian and started talking like i was a street racer. He even asked if i have nitrous bottles in my trunk... i was like dude i'll say it for the 3rd time.. I DONT RACE!
so dont go there unless you really want to be stupified...

Don't go to Toyota 101 in Redwood City. The car I bought was brand new but the gas tank was broken. Everytime I tried to fill up, it just keep stopping and it AIN'T the gas station's problems. I went to like 3 differerent gas stations. And that wasn't the worse part. I had to go back to service dept three times before they would finally fix the damn thing. Each time they will tell me "oh it is fixed" but it is not. Damn, those people.
Also, i don't recommend Melody Toyota in San Bruno because the sales guy had bad attitude. He looked at me like I couldn't afford the car or something.

Sunnyvale Toyota service sucks. Because i was short on time i decided to bring it in for a 60,000 mile service. I told them not to touch my TRD filter. They said they would call me when it was done. I get called at 2pm telling me that things are ok and they will call me when its done. 5:30 rolls around and i dont get a call, so i call them up, they said its done, and i ask for a shuttle......the shuttle left for the day and i had to get my car to go to an event.
My friend drops me off. I wait 10 minutes to be served and I look at the bill....$18 for a filter. I ask them why, they told me that my TRD filter was dirty so they replaced it with a regular one. I was pissed, so they went and found my filter and brought it to me. I gave them that "i dont think so" look and they called someone to go put my filter back in, which they did not do a good job of either.
So Sunnyvale Toyota doesnt even know that a TRD filter is reusable. I'm never bringing my car there again.

Folsom Lake Toyota -- Poor.
I don't know if I've been the only one, but they charged me for spark plugs, which they never installed (I have proof).
The altinater belt they installed cost $60 + Labor. As opposed to $20.
Terrible.

bought my GT from there as well. bought exactly what i wanted, car only had less than 50 miles on when i drive it home and paid just a little over invoice. customer service was very helpful. the person there had no problem with my intake and still said he would check for any problems with the engine and brakes. i give them a thumbs up as well.

NEVER go to stockton toyota town. customer service sucks. i have this brake problem ever since i got my car. i would always hear a squeeking noise from both front and rear brakes. everytime i took my car for an oil change i would always ask them to check my brakes. they said they are fine, but i would always hear them squeek, so i gave up. my brakes still squeek. and for them to change oil takes at least an 1hr to 1 1/2hr.

Roseville Toyota Part dept is great. Ask for Ed, he's a good guy. Ummm, stay away from the sevice dept though. My family always buys toyotas, usuallly from Roseville and they've always have had problems with the service dept. They'll don't do much.
The sales guys at Hanlees Toyota were real nice and friendly to me.
Maita toyota is evil. Parts dept. are always rude and the service dept. will do repairs without your concent and then bitch you out if you tell them ya didn't want it. Sales treat ya like your an idiot.

Hanlees Toyota in Davis, Ca-
Horrible!
I took my car in there because of a really loud squealing accessory belt. They told me the noise was coming from my intake which is located on the complete opposite side of the engine. I went home and printed out the recall papers on this issue and brought my car back. This time they checked the car and told me they couldn't hear any noise at all. I called up the Toyota hotline and threw a fit and made a mess between Toyota, the service manager of Hanlees, and the Customer Relations Manager. Eventually they ended up fixing it, but not without a fight!
I also took my car in there to have the shift linkage lubed because it was squeaking everytime I shifted gears. Hanlees was supposed to look at under warranty. When I picked up my car they told me it wasn't covered even though it was, and they charged me $65 even though I never authorized them to do the work. I refused to pay and they went ahead and "took care of it" since they knew they were lying. Also, they destroyed the plastic thing underneath my car.
Worthless.

I have just moved to Stockton and I found that out when I went to their service department. Service sucks, I think I was ignored because I had my cover-all and dirty. I will not go back there unless I have no other choice.
Toyota of Vallejo===Great Sales Bought my 02 Celica GT-S w/Action Pkg and 02 Limited Seqouia there.
Tested the tC there and they were ready to make a deal.
Wife likes the tC too and I as well. Test drive auto and nice torque.
Might trade-in Celica for her and I'll trade-in Seqouia for STi
Wish me luck.
OBTW, I bought my 95 Previa from Vacaville Lithia Toyota and it has'nt fail me once. I mean nothing!
I took awhile to talkem down but worked out great! Parts Dep., No comment. I do all my pm on all my cars.

well since i never posted in here, i would have to say the best experience i have ever had with their service department is Victory Toyota in Seaside, or Sand City, same place is you know the area. Basically they have taken care of me with no problems. I have done tons of warrenty work and just work in general over there. Anytime it took more than a day they provided me with a rental with no questions asked. They are very mod friendly, i mean i had every bolt on including a stand alone unit with all my suspension parts and motor mounts. When i blew my motor and tranny i towed it straight there afterwards with all my mods and they took care of it. 8 grand in repairs all done under warrenty, they even put back all my aftermarket things on my car and said "have a nice day, i hope the rental was sufficient enough." Now thats customer service for you!!!!

i'm gonna give another shout out to novato toyota ... they were very friendly w/my mods and took care of my car w/a spun rod bearing, they delt w/the extended warranty all the way through, and they put all my mods back on also... everything that was on the car to begin with, was back on the car when i got it back, and they also did a clutch/flywheel install at the same time.
Total bill was ~$5k, my bill was $700...
new short block.. ooooh yeah...
(300 that i paid was a new timing belt that i had to buy)
